The US Department of State and the Department of Defense made a joint statement and shared the latest measures regarding the evacuation of Americans in Kabul.
In the statement, it was noted that extensive security measures were taken around Hamid Karzai Airport in order to ensure the safe evacuation of the Americans and Afghans who support the United States.
In this context, it was stated in the statement that the said evacuation operation will be carried out under the protection of approximately 6 thousand soldiers in the next 48 hours, and air traffic control at Kabul Airport will be handled for this purpose.
In the statement, which stated that the evacuation process will continue not only in a few days, but also in the following days, it was pointed out that around 2,000 Afghans who supported the USA would be expelled from the country. It was also stated in the statement that Afghans who have undergone all security screenings will be taken directly to the USA, and those who have not yet completed these processes will find other places.
On the other hand, an unnamed defense official speaking to CNN announced that as of Sunday night, local time, measures around the airport, including air traffic control, began to be taken.
